Another now-famous example of error came a year later when the New York Times printed story after incorrect story about how the Bolsheviks in Russia were being soundly defeated. When the revolution was successful, the paper had a lot of backpedalling to do. Though errors and outright fabrications were on their way to becoming enemies of journalism, in the early stages of the newly sanitized press they still occurred, as they do today. It is inevitable that mistakes will be made, but what matters for accuracy is the clear determination to eliminate errors, acknowledge those that occur, and institute a high ethical standard within the press.
