Success is Danger

Success is Danger.

A DNA changer.

In the conquest of knowledge,

You got a good college.

Companies fought to employ,

This blue-eyed boy.

But a steady pulse rate is a sure sign,

Of a heart attack in a short time.

The law of averages delivered a wham,

From being the chef, you were now the lamb.

The later your ego is punctured,

The more difficult it is to bounce back.

You did not know how to react,

Got into the drinking act.

A slow killer is failure,

Depressing, yet a favor.

If you are learning to sail,

Better in the port to fail.

In times of crisis on the high seas,

The only thing that matters – is your history.

If life has been good, and you’ve seen no tears,

Your fate is sealed, and finished are your years.

But if death has scared you – many times before,
You’ll live to tell the story, when you reach the shore.

This is dedicated to my friend, David Rego. He was a great guy, our school head-boy. He did his MCA from Pune University, and lived the US dream. Came back to India – to disaster and alcohol. He passed away in his sleep on 2-Oct-2014, ironically reading about Alcoholics Anonymous.
