Everyone aspires to be the best professionally.
This can only be true, if one is in a profession as per the ability, aptitude
and skills one possesses. As there is no one shoe that fits all sizes, there is
no one profession that is suitable for one and all. However, most limit their
choices to either Engineering or Medical, not realizing that there are other
ample professional choices available to excel and make a career in. There is
very little awareness about these other professional courses which can be
pursued directly after 10+2.
These career options are Law, Management, Fashion Design & Technology, Hotel
Management, Defence Services and Accountancy. These fields offer a bright and
prosperous career to those willing to think out of the box. In a competitive era
like ours, it is imperative that right career path be chosen at the earliest
possible stage. However, to steer through the competition, pre planning is
needed.

The oldest law school in India is GLC, Mumbai, which was founded in 1855. But it was with institutes like the NLSIU Bangalore, started in 1988 and NALSAR Hyderabad which followed 10 years later that law as a career really picked up. The traditional image of law has been of civil and criminal practice, but nowadays corporate law and IPR practices have become big time recruiters at law schools. NLU Jodhpur was started in 1999 and was followed by 22 more NLUs. The best amongst NLUs are the ones at Delhi, followed by Jodhpur, Bhopal and Gandhinagar. Symbiosis Law school also has made a good name for itself. The premier exam for law is the CLAT. CLAT has English, very basic math, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, and current affairs sections.
The first of the Institutes of Hotel management, IHM Pusa, Delhi was started in 1962. There are 71 IHMs today., with the good ones being in the metros and the bigger cities. And hotel management graduates are well placed to leverage their skills in the services space.
Journalists are the nation’s conscious keepers. Over the years there has been a shift in media consumption from print to TV to digital media and the Mass Comm course has reflected the same.. These programs are interdisciplinary and cover four areas - social sciences, natural sciences, humanities and arts. In some sense these programs mirror the real world where nothing exists in isolation. Most Indian liberal art colleges offer a wide choice of electives enabling students to personalise their program. Good schools are Azim Premji University, Ashoka University, Christ, Krea and Flame.
